San Antonio Spurs’ guard Manu Ginobili scored 24 points and Carlos Delfino added 23 to lead defending Olympic champion Argentina into the men’s semifinals with an 80-78 victory against Greece Wednesday night.

Greece led 40-39 at halftime of the contest, which coach Panagiotis Giannakis called the best of the Olympics. The fourth quarter began with Argentina up 56-55, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Delfino quickly gave Argentina a slight cushion, 62-55.

Argentina never trailed after that and was ahead 80-75 with less than one minute left. Panagiotis Vassilopoulos banked in a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left, but those were the final points of the game. Greece point guard Vasileois Spanoulis’ last second 3-pointer bounced off the rim.

Argentina will play the U.S. on Friday night, though Ginobili said the odds of an Argentina victory were not good.

“There’s not much of a chance, only a very, very small one” of beating the U.S., he said.

Antonis Fotsis led Greece with 17 points, while Kostas Tsartsaris finished with 13.
