TeamHardy Withdraws From Olympic Swim Team. The Associated PressSwimmer Jessica Hardy withdrew from the U.S. Olympic team Friday, four weeks after testing positive for a banned substance at the Olympic trials. (August 1)Swimmer Jessica Hardy will not be in the pool at the Beijing Olympics.Hardy withdrew from the U.S. Olympic team Friday, four weeks after testing positive for a banned substance at the Olympic trials. The move was announced by the the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which said Hardy backed out ‘in the best interests of the team.’Hardy could have challenged the drug test results before the American Arbitration Association, and potentially filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. That would have kept her first Olympic berth in doubt until the eve of the games that open in one week.In late July, Hardy told the AP she had no idea how she tested positive for the banned substance saying she’d never even heard of the drug. With Hardy’s withdrawal, USA Swimming is allowed to place swimmers already on the team in her open events.
